Geometric Road Design

Emphasis: Transportation

Sponsor: Bluffdale City

Description: Geometric road design for Bluffdale City. Loumis Parkway, former 1300 West in Bluffdale extends from 14400 South near the intersection with Redwood Road to the City boundary with Riverton, to the north east of the commencing point.  This is a low volume two-lane road that has decayed to the point of needing reconstruction.  Some sections are very narrow and do not meet AASHTO geometric requirements.  Many pedestrian and cyclist use the road as well as some heavy trucks from the nearby sewer plant.
The City is planning to partially or fully reconstruct the road to improve the geometry and safety, but has limited funds to accomplish this.
The objectives of the project are:
1. To explore potential designs that improves the safety and viability of the road that can be built with limited disruption to the traffic.
2. Provide design options for pedestrian and bicyclist traffic that may include separate paths.
3. Limit the right of way acquisition.

The City will be able to provide topographic and property maps as well as aerials of the area.

Possible task required:
Evaluate current road alignment
Evaluate existing pavement for recycling
Evaluate current traffic patterns and type
Study possible alignments options
Select best alignment option to propose
Select a cross-section that would meet the objectives

Provide the proposal in a report.
